Needs assessment and service coordination
The primary point of contact for services for older adults is Needs Assessment and Service Coordination (NASC). NASC services cover help to stay at home, support services for carers and entry into residential care. They can also link with other District Health Board (DHB) services and community based agencies.

- District nursing: Provides a community nursing service seven days a week; 8am-8pm Monday to Friday, 8am-1pm and 4pm-8pm Saturday and Sunday. Phone 06 869 0500 ext 8405. The team also has several specialist roles; continence, wound management, breast care/oncology and stoma care. Additional services provided for home IV service, outpatient IV clinics, palliative care nursing, oxygen supplies and education. Area covered includes Gisborne City and extends from Ormond to the Waipaoa Bridge and North as far as Makarori.
- Shuttle services: The Sunshine Bus service is a registered charitable trust. Volunteers provide wheelchair accessible transport for elderly and disabled, with a focus on supporting independence. Buses operate in the Gisborne suburban area and transport people to medical appointments, day programmes and supermarket shopping. The service is also available to residents of long-term care.
